Job Responsibilities:
- Overall Purpose of Role
- To act as sub-contracted welding coordinator at a comprehensive level, in line with ISO 14731, of
welding and related activities within the company, associated subcontractors and certification bodies in
compliance with application standards for the product type, including EN 1090 and ISO 3834-2 as a
minimum requirement.
- Key Responsibilities
- To ensure contractual / drawing requirements and product standards are reviewed, communicated to
and fully understood by sub-contractors and the company.
- To ensure that welding contractors have achieved the required standards of workmanship and
documentation for products in accordance to fabrication drawings, product standards and
supplementary requirements as applicable to order.
- To review and monitor the welding quality control systems, manufacturing operations, personnel and
inspection of products and materials at sub-contractors facilities including random compliance audits to
ensure adherence to specifications.
- Responsible for review and verification and approval of WPS, WPQR, Welder certification, Inspection
Test Plans and NDT reports and effectively communicating technical reports of reviews and audits to
management.
- To provide support in addressing non-conformances and assist in taking appropriate immediate and long
term corrective actions as required.
- To provide clear planning guidance to welding contractors at all levels to help achieve product quality
and delivery goals with all supporting documentation being provided in a timely manner.
- Relationships
- Work closely with other engineering, technical, quality and manufacturing personnel across the
company, group and contractors sites during scheduled visits and additionally as required by
manufacturing demands.
- Working directly with UK RWC to verify local coordination activities are in line with specifications.
Person Specification.
- Experience:
- Experienced in working with standards related to welding of steels, procedure qualifications, welder
certification and NDT; ISO and EN standards being applicable to products.
- Proven practical background in visual weld and documentation quality control inspections of steel
welded fabrications or vessels of high safety relevance.
- Working with and interpreting engineering CAD drawings including welding symbolic representation.
- Familiarity of working to ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Strong background in steel engineering manufacturing and associated cutting and forming processes.
- Skills:
- Good understanding of and ability to interpret various ISO and EN standards including
A familiarity with equivalent ASME (i.e. AWS D1.1, ASME IX, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, CSA W59,
W47.1 etc.), local / Indian and other national and international standards and understanding
of the relationships and differences to the above would be beneficial.
- Ability to communicate effectively and provide succinctly detailed technical and audit reports from
scheduled visits and during certification body audits of the company.
- Ability to work with teams including contractors and liaise between management, production /
inspection personnel and the company providing local guidance on welding and related issues.
- A good understanding of steel materials and associated product supply standards for various forms.
- Beneficial to have a basic knowledge of types of steel coatings and their application including painting
and galvanising for corrosion protection of welded fabrications.
- Ability to interpret detailed technical documentation and application standards published in English
language.
- Education and Qualifications:
- Technical qualifications and education equivalent to comprehensive IWE (International Welding
Engineer) Level required, full certification as IWE preferred.
- Verifiable history of supervision or inspection activities related to welded products at a senior level.
- Current certificates of welding inspection or in NDT methods would be advantageous, also to a senior
level.
- A degree in an engineering discipline would be advantageous or a recognised national higher certificate
or diploma of education and technical registration with an engineering institution. Other practical
experience via a mature route would be considered with supporting evidence.
