Job Responsibilities

As the Plant Head, you will be responsible for overseeing the comprehensive operations of our flexible packaging plant. This role entails managing production processes, ensuring rigorous quality assurance, optimizing resource utilization, and minimizing operational waste. Key priorities include achieving on-time, in-full deliveries, reducing rework, ensuring optimal OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and implementing strategic headcount planning to maximize output.

You will lead initiatives to embed lean practices, foster a “Right First Time, Every Time” culture, and uphold the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction. Additionally, you will drive operational excellence by implementing continuous improvement strategies and ensuring seamless production floor operations.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the flexible packaging industry, demonstrated leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to cultivate a high-performance culture focused on accountability, efficiency, and innovation. This position requires a hands-on yet strategic leader who can deliver results and align operations with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence:

    • Oversee daily operations, including production planning, quality assurance, maintenance, and logistics, ensuring seamless plant functionality.

    • Ensure effective coordination between departments to consistently meet production targets and achieve on-time full (OTF) delivery schedules.

  • Strategic Leadership:

    • Develop and execute operational strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce operational wastages and costs, and improve productivity.

    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and methodologies including Lean Six Sigma, to optimize processes and drive operational excellence.

  • Team Management:

    • Build, lead, train and mentor a high-performing team of managers, supervisors, and operators.

    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and adherence to safety standards.

    • Identify training needs and implement programs to advance employee skills and capabilities.

  • Budget and Cost Control:

    • Manage the allocated budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation and adherence to financial objectives.

    • Monitor expenses to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or efficiency.

  • Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure strict adherence to all environmental, health, and safety regulations, maintaining compliance with industry and legal standards.

  • Implement and uphold comprehensive safety protocols to provide a secure and healthy working environment for all employees.

  • Identify workplace hazards, including fire risks, and conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to mitigate potential threats.

  • Enforce fire safety measures and foster a culture of safety awareness by providing employees with continuous training on hazard identification, fire prevention, and emergency response procedures.

  • Monitor and continuously improve safety performance, ensuring a proactive approach to preventing accidents and environmental incidents.

  • Quality Control:

  • Uphold the highest standards of quality across all production processes, ensuring consistency and excellence.

  • Collaborate closely with the quality assurance team to minimize defects, enhance product reliability, and reduce rework and reproduction by adhering to established quality standards.

  • Implement and maintain a robust Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with industry certifications such as BRCGS and FSSC 22000.

  • Proactively monitor quality metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.

  • Investigate and address customer complaints promptly and effectively, ensuring long-term solutions that enhance satisfaction and trust.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Act as the primary liaison between the plant and leadership, providing detailed performance reports and actionable improvement plans.

    • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure uninterrupted operations and enhance supply chain efficiency.

    • Identify and evaluate new development opportunities, cost-saving initiatives, and emerging market trends.

    • Work with vendors and suppliers to explore new products and technologies that can drive innovation and competitiveness.

    • Share insights on new products, market shifts, and cost-saving strategies with leadership to support strategic decision-making and business growth.

  • Technology & Innovation:

  • Stay in touch of the latest advancements in flexible packaging technology, Industry 4.0 trends, and innovations that are shaping the future of production.

  • Assess and implement emerging technologies, such as automation, smart manufacturing solutions, and Industry 4.0 technologies, to drive productivity, enhance quality, and improve market competitiveness.

  • Lead the seamless integration of ERP systems to streamline operations, enhance data accuracy, and support informed decision-making across all departments.

  • Ensure the establishment of effective planning and scheduling systems that optimize resource utilization, minimize downtime, and foster operational efficiency.

  • Continuously evaluate and adopt technologies that can enhance plant performance, align with long-term business strategies, and facilitate the ongoing digital transformation of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.

  • Preferred certifications include Lean Six Sigma, ISO compliance, or other relevant industry standards.

  • 8-15 years of experience in the flexible packaging industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Hands-on experience with Gravure, Flexo printing, and operations involving ELS and MLS machines.

  • Knowledge of ink operations and quality assurance processes is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., BRCGS, FSSC 22000).

  • Proficiency in using ERP/MRP systems.

  • Proven track record of successful plant operations, including production, quality, safety, and maintenance.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven expertise in production planning, process optimization, and team leadership.

  • Strong financial acumen with experience in managing plant budgets.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.
