Team Environment: Multicultural, multi-office technical and advisory team spanning the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, India, Italy, and the USA

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced CAD Draftsman to produce and manage electrical drawings for solar PV, BESS, substation, and transmission projects. The role requires strong technical drafting capability across LV, MV, and EHV systems, close coordination with engineers and clients across multiple countries, and excellent written and spoken English, as documentation and coordination with international, multicultural teams and clients is a core part of the job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, update, and manage electrical CAD drawings including single line diagrams (SLDs), general arrangement (GA) layouts, cable routing and schedules, earthing/lightning protection layouts, and substation layouts (AIS/GIS).
  • Develop drawings for solar PV plants and BESS, including array layouts, inverter/transformer placement, MV collection networks, and interconnection to substations.
  • Produce transmission line drawings, including route plans, tower/pole schedules, profile drawings, and crossing details for EHV lines.
  • Draft substation layouts and sections for LV/MV/EHV switchgear, transformers, protection panels, and control buildings.
  • Coordinate with engineering, project management, and client teams across multiple regions and time zones to incorporate design changes, comments, and mark-ups accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintain drawing registers, revision control, and documentation standards in line with client and international norms (IEC, IEEE, or equivalent as applicable).
  • Cross-check drawings against equipment datasheets, vendor drawings, and site survey data for accuracy.
  • Support tender, feasibility, and owner’s engineering deliverables with drawing packages and figures for reports and proposals.
  • Liaise directly, in clear written and spoken English, with engineers, clients, and EPC contractors across our multicultural offices in the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, India, Italy, and the USA.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting/Design Technology, or related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on CAD drafting experience in the electrical power sector, with demonstrable work on LV, MV, and EHV systems.
  • Proven experience drafting substation layouts (AIS and/or GIS) and transmission line drawings.
  • Direct experience on solar PV and/or BESS projects, including SLDs, array/string layouts, and interconnection drawings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (required); experience with additional tools such as MicroStation, Revit (Electrical), PVsyst layouts, or PLS-CADD is an advantage.
  • Very good command of written and spoken English is essential, as the role involves daily coordination with a multicultural, multi-country team and direct interaction with international clients.
  • Working knowledge of relevant international standards (IEC, IEEE, or regional grid codes such as those of DEWA, SEC, EWA, or NEPCO) is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and comfort managing multiple concurrent drawing packages under deadline pressure.

Preferred Attributes

  • Prior experience working in a consulting or owner’s engineering environment.
  • Exposure to GCC or MENA renewable energy and transmission projects.
  • Comfortable collaborating remotely with colleagues and clients across different countries, cultures, and time zones.
