DIRECTOR – CAPITAL PROJECTS

Position: Director – Capital Projects
Experience: 15+ Years

We are seeking an accomplished Director – Capital Projects to lead the planning and execution of large-scale capital projects for a leading organization in the solar cell manufacturing industry.

The role will be responsible for driving major greenfield and brownfield projects, plant expansion, infrastructure development, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, while ensuring successful delivery within approved cost, schedule, quality and safety parameters.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for major capital projects.
  • Lead projects from concept, feasibility and design through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Establish project objectives, execution strategies, schedules, budgets and governance frameworks.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure alignment with organizational business objectives.

Capital Project Execution

  • Lead large-scale greenfield and brownfield manufacturing projects.
  • Oversee plant expansion, capacity enhancement and new manufacturing facilities.
  • Manage civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, utilities and infrastructure-related project activities.
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, consultants, technology partners, vendors and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective project planning, resource allocation and execution.

Engineering & Design

  • Review and approve engineering concepts, layouts, specifications and technical designs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities.
  • Ensure designs meet operational, technical, quality, safety and statutory requirements.
  • Drive value engineering and optimization opportunities.

Procurement & Contracts

  • Work closely with procurement teams on major equipment, technology packages, services and construction contracts.
  • Support vendor evaluation, technical negotiations and contractor selection.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Manage variations, claims and commercial risks.

Budget & Cost Management

  • Develop and manage large CAPEX budgets.
  • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality or project objectives.
  • Manage project financial risks, variations and cost forecasts.

Schedule & Risk Management

  • Develop and monitor integrated project schedules.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Track critical milestones and resolve execution bottlenecks.
  • Ensure timely completion of projects and commissioning activities.

Commissioning & Handover

  • Lead commissioning, trial runs, performance testing and project handover.
  • Ensure equipment and facilities meet required performance specifications.
  • Coordinate with operations and production teams for smooth transition into manufacturing.
  • Ensure proper documentation, SOPs and technical records are completed.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and external partners.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Quality, EHS, Finance and other functions.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, consultants, suppliers and technology partners.
  • Provide regular project updates to senior management.

Candidate Profile

  • 15+ years of experience in capital projects, project execution, engineering or industrial manufacturing.
  • Strong experience managing large-scale CAPEX projects.
  • Proven experience in greenfield and/or brownfield manufacturing projects.
  • Strong exposure to EPC, engineering, construction and commissioning.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large project budgets.
  • Strong understanding of project planning, cost control, contracts, procurement and risk management.
  • Excellent stakeholder and vendor management skills.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
