Job Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Industry:

Metal & Mining / Integrated Steel Manufacturing Industry

Role Purpose:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for large-scale integrated manufacturing operations. The role will focus on driving operational excellence, business growth, productivity improvement, safety, quality, compliance, and profitability while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Business Performance

  • Translate business strategy into operational plans and execution roadmaps.
  • Drive profitable growth, operational efficiency, and productivity enhancement initiatives.
  • Ensure operational stability and seamless coordination across the end-to-end manufacturing value chain.

Plant Operations & Operational Excellence

  • Lead overall plant operations, including production, maintenance, utilities, logistics, and supporting functions.
  • Implement world-class manufacturing practices, lean operations, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and optimize KPIs related to productivity, quality, safety, yield, energy efficiency, and asset reliability.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety-first culture and ensure adherence to statutory and environmental regulations.
  • Drive product quality excellence and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all operational, legal, and regulatory standards.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Establish strong operational controls, SOPs, and governance practices.
  • Identify operational risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Drive transparency through regular performance reviews and reporting mechanisms.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Collaborate with finance teams for cost optimization and budget adherence.
  • Lead initiatives focused on operational cost reduction, waste minimization, and efficiency improvement.
  • Utilize operational and financial data for strategic decision-making.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and mentor high-performing leadership teams.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, and external business partners.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Electrical, or related discipline.
  • MBA or Postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Minimum 20+ years of experience in large-scale manufacturing or integrated plant operations within the Metal & Mining / Steel industry.
  • Proven experience in operational leadership, plant management, and business transformation initiatives.
