Position Title: General Manager

 

Job Description

Position Summary:

The General Manager is a critical leader of the India team. Under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Response, the General Manager will oversee and manage all aspects of salvage and emergency response operations within India. The role leads commercial operations and regulatory compliance, participating in planning, finance management, and administration of the business. The General Manager is required to demonstrate a combination of technical expertise, leadership, and business acumen to ensure the successful recovery and salvage of vessels, cargo and other maritime assets. The role is expected to strive for continuous improvement in safety, quality, compliance, sustainability, and efficiency goals. The work in this position is complex and involves significant accountability, decision-making, organizational, and leadership responsibilities.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to optimize salvage operations, maximize revenue, and minimize risks.
  • Manage day-to-day salvage operations, including the deployment of salvage crews, equipment, and resources to ensure efficient and safe salvage activities.
  • Lead and mentor a team of salvage professionals, including salvage coordinators, divers, engineers, architects, and administrative staff.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the India Navy, India Coast Guard, clients, shipowners, insurers, and relevant authorities to secure salvage contracts and partnerships.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for salvage projects, ensuring cost control and profitability.
  • Ensure that all salvage operations comply with relevant maritime laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Procure and maintain salvage equipment, vessels, and resources necessary for effective salvage operations.
  • Conduct risk assessments for salvage projects and implement mitigation strategies to reduce potential hazards.
  • Promote environmental sustainability by minimizing the impact of salvage operations on the marine ecosystem.
  • Coordinate and lead emergency response efforts in case of maritime accidents and incidents.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management and stakeholders on the progress of salvage projects, financial performance, and other key metrics.
  • Actively engage with other international peers in sharing best in class industry practices.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in maritime studies, naval architecture, marine engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is a plus. Relevant India Navy and Marine experience is a plus.
  • Several years of experience as a maritime captain and in the shipping industry is a plus.
  • Several years of experience in the India marine services, maritime salvage operations, including a track record of successful salvage projects. Prior managerial or leadership experience is essential.
  • Profound understanding of maritime salvage techniques, equipment, and regulations.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, authorities, and team members.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • A commitment to safety and environmental protection in all salvage activities.
  • Strong business acumen to identify commercial and business opportunities, manage budgets, contracts, and financial aspects of salvage operations.
  • Relevant certifications and licenses, such as maritime captain, salvage master may be required.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and emergencies in the maritime salvage industry.

 

 

Travel Requirement:

Up to ___30_% travel is required.  If additional, travel is required beyond the specified amount, based on the operational demand, you will be notified accordingly so arrangements can be made.
